Man of Action Sets New Record

George Atkinson recently climbed to the peak of Mount Everest at the age of 16, Following 22 year old Geordie Stewart to the highest point on the planet, three days before his seventeenth birthday.

George became the youngest person to climb the Seven Summits three days before his 17th birthday

Like Geordie, the climb was the final stage in a global expedition to reach the Seven Summits, amazingly, he started at the age of 11 by scaling Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. He then tackled Russia's Mount Elbrus two years later, followed by Indonesia's Carstensz Pyramid, Argentina's Mount Aconcagua, North America's Mount McKinely and Antarctica's Mount Vinson.

Remarkably, by the age of seven, he had also climbed the three highest peaks in the UK. Before tackling his final challenge, Atkinson said: 'There are a number of things that drive me. I do enjoy any mountain and I feel there is an amazing sense of freedom in any mountain range...I like a good challenge'.

'It would mean an awful lot to get to the top of Everest. I'm not doing it just to get the record... I find it a good challenge. If I got the record it would be the cherry on top'.

George's mother, Penny posted on his blog: 'George has done it. He reached the summit at about 8.15am Nepali time. It sounds as if the weather is good... A big thank you to everyone who has helped George to achieve his dream'.
